Reasons to Visit an Emergency Dentist for Kids

If your child damages one of their teeth, it is important to visit an emergency dentist for kids right away. The longer a damaged tooth is left untreated, the more likely it is that the damage will spread or that the tooth itself will become infected. Seeking treatment as quickly as possible is incredibly important.

Reasons children need to see an emergency dentist for kids

Some of the main reasons children visit our office are:

1. Toothache

If a child is complaining of a toothache, it could be that they have food stuck in between their teeth. Try brushing their teeth and then waiting a couple of minutes. If the tooth no longer hurts, problem solved. However, if they still have a toothache it is probably caused by a dental infection or tooth decay. In both scenarios, it is important to bring them to the dentist so that the problem can be addressed. Parents should always listen to their children's complaints because kids are unlikely to exaggerate a toothache.

2. Chipped tooth

Children regularly chip their teeth when playing or eating. Doing something as simple as eating a hard candy can cause a tooth to chip so it is very easy to do. When it happens, it is wise to visit our office as quickly as possible so that we can restore the tooth and help the child to feel better. Otherwise, it is likely that they will continue to complain of tooth sensitivity. Also, a chipped tooth can become infected if bacteria enters the damaged portion of the tooth.

3. Broken tooth

Like a chipped tooth, a broken tooth should be restored quickly and before an infection can set in.

4. Missing tooth

A child may lose a tooth on the playground, when playing sports, etc. If a tooth is knocked out, found and brought back to our office, it may be possible for us to save the tooth. However, time is of the essence and the sooner a dentist is reached, the better. If it is a baby tooth, we may want to place a spacer so that proper space is preserved for the adult tooth which is not yet ready to descend. If it was a permanent tooth, we can discuss replacement options along with when it would be appropriate to consider them.

5. Bleeding gums or mouth

If a parent is worried that their child may have cut or bleeding gums, a dentist can examine their mouth to see what the problem is and how it can be fixed.

An emergency dentist for kids can fix many problems on the same day

The benefit of bringing a child to an emergency dentist for kids is that we can fix many oral health problems on the same day that a child complains. This means that they do not have to suffer and wait days or even weeks for a dental appointment to become available.

It also means that they can get back to life much faster. Simultaneously, our services are comprehensive and children visiting us for emergency care will receive the same level of options and services as if they did wait for a regular appointment to open up.
